The Streamer Mac Workspace: Apps to Open Every Morning

A ready-made Mac workspace for streamers: OBS Studio, Discord, Google Chrome, Spotify and Messages, opened together with one double clap.

By Karan Kartikeya. Published .

A good Mac workspace for streamers opens OBS Studio, Discord, Google Chrome, Spotify and Messages. ClapSnap opens all of them at once when you double clap, so your day starts without clicking through the Dock.

Going live means getting a handful of apps open in the right order before the countdown ends. A clap that opens all of them, with an overlay, is also a fun moment on camera.

The apps

App Why it is in the list
OBS Studio Scenes, sources and the stream itself
Discord Community and co-streamers
Google Chrome Stream dashboard and chat pop-out
Spotify Background music
Messages Mods and quick coordination

Clap or snap?

Double clap. A clap reads well on camera and works from a step back from the desk.

The routine

Clap twice before you go live: OBS, Discord, the dashboard and music open together while the ClapSnap overlay plays, and you are ready to hit Start Streaming.

Tips for streamers

  • Set the welcome name in the overlay to your channel name for an on-brand moment.
  • Use Air Mouse to switch scenes or scroll chat when you are standing or away from the desk.
  • Test sensitivity with your stream audio playing so game sounds do not trigger it.

Set up the streamer workspace

  1. Install ClapSnap. Download ClapSnap and allow microphone access when macOS asks.
  2. Add the apps. In Settings, add OBS Studio, Discord, Google Chrome, Spotify and Messages.
  3. Choose double clap. A clap reads well on camera and works from a step back from the desk.
  4. Turn on launch at login. So your workspace is a gesture away every morning.

Questions

Will viewers hear the trigger?

They will hear your clap if your microphone is live. Many streamers clap before going live, or make it part of the intro.

Can I control OBS with Air Mouse?

Air Mouse moves and clicks the cursor, so you can click scene buttons in OBS like you would with a mouse.
